Dasmesh Highand March
Composed by Lindsay Davidson, 1995
Dasmesh is a place in Indonesia with a Sikh pipe band that travels. This tune was commissioned in 1995 to give to them as a gift on one of their travels. The composer doesn't actually know if they ever got the tune, but it has been taken up by many bands all over the world.
This is intended to be a brisk, military style march. There are harmonies made in a brass band style. They might be added later.
Play with crispness and sharpness and exacting precision rhythmically.
The F gracenote to high G in the first bar opens on the beat, and therfore closes before the beat.
The low G gracenotes are the same length as all the gracenotes...In other words all the gracenotes are short. This helps add to the sense of crispness.
The throws are quite heavy, taking half the preceding note for the low G but the strike in the throw is very light and the whole embellishment takes up half the time of a doubling.
